Efoil Cost per Ride Calculator

Estimates what each session on a premium electric hydrofoil board really costs once depreciation, running costs and a battery replacement are spread across the years you own it.

Your estimate

Cost per session...
Annual cost of ownership...
Total net cost over the ownership period...
Total depreciation...

Estimates only. Assumptions are listed below, and you can change every input.

A premium efoil is a five-figure purchase, and the sticker price is only the opening number. Depreciation, insurance, servicing, storage, transport to the water and an eventual battery replacement all land on the same board. Most riders never add those lines together, which makes it hard to judge whether ownership is sensible for the amount of riding they actually do.

This calculator takes your purchase price, the years you expect to keep the board, your realistic sessions per year, the resale value you expect and your running costs, then spreads the total over every session. The result is a plain cost per ride, an annual figure and the full net cost of ownership. It is an estimate built from your own inputs, not a manufacturer projection, so change any number that does not match your situation.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the full purchase price for the board, battery and charger, then the number of years you realistically expect to keep it.
  2. Set an honest number of sessions per year, your expected resale percentage and a yearly figure for insurance, servicing, storage, transport and charging.
  3. Add a battery replacement cost if you expect one, then read the cost per session and compare it with the price of renting or booking lessons.

What the math assumes

  • Depreciation equals the purchase price minus your expected resale value, and it is spread evenly across the years you own the board.
  • Annual running costs are treated as the same amount every year and include charging electricity, insurance, servicing, storage and transport.
  • A battery replacement, if you enter one, is counted once over the whole ownership period rather than per year.
  • Financing interest, taxes, accessories and lessons are not included unless you fold them into the running cost or purchase price yourself.
  • The cost per session divides the total net cost by sessions per year multiplied by years owned; if either is zero the tool returns 0.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the cost per session change so much when I adjust sessions per year?

Depreciation and running costs are largely fixed, so they are divided by however many rides you take. Doubling your sessions roughly halves the cost of each one, which is why usage matters more than the sticker price.

What resale percentage should I use for a premium efoil?

Use a figure based on listings for the same model and age in your region rather than a guess. Battery condition, cosmetic wear and whether the brand still supports the model all move the number, so check current second-hand prices before you decide.

Should I include lessons and safety gear in the purchase price?

If you want a complete picture of what getting on the water costs, yes. Add them to the purchase price or to the first year of running costs so they are spread across your sessions like everything else.

Does the calculator account for battery degradation?

Only through the optional replacement cost. If you expect the pack to need replacing during your ownership, enter the price of a new one and the tool spreads it across every session.
